User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Exceptional player
I have been holding out on purchasing a blue ray until after the format war was settled between blue ray and the Toshiba HD DVD. Now that I have it, I’m not sure what I did without one! This thing is awesome!

So you probably realize that the blue ray format is great before you read this… So, let me tell you why I picked this unit.

1. start up. This until starts up very quickly. In fact I couldn’t believe how long it took other brands to boot. Boot time is not a problem with this one.

2. Upconverting. I took a regular Lord of the Rings DVD into the local retailer and tested the upconversions. It is my opinion that this Pioneer had the best upconversion in the store.

It’s not a cheap player, but if you have a lot of regular DVD’s, you’ll appreciate paying the extra bucks to be able to watch instead of replacing your entire collection. What I found though is that newer DVD releases still convert and look better than older releases. I watched one of my oldest DVD’s last night, Pulp Fiction, and I must admit that it didn’t look as good on this setup as it did on my old set up.

For reference, I have this player hooked up to a Pioneer KURO PRO-111FD. It’s a great combination.

Sharp Aquos BDHP20U 1080p Blu Ray Disc Player

Sharp Aquos BDHP20U 1080p Blu Ray Disc Player

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Complete piece of crap!
This has to be one of the worst purchases I’ve made in recent memory. Claims to have Quick Start functionality but this only applies if the movie has already been pre-loaded and the machine is waiting on standby, which is useless unless youre going to watch the same movie continuously. Who watches the same movie over and over again unless youre a 2-year old with Thomas the Train on continual loop? In reality, movies take several minutes to load. The worst part is that you can wait for it to load only to find out that the disc is incompatible with the player. This has happened on at least a third of the discs I’ve purchased/rented. Wall-E, X Files, The Happening (although I’ve heard it did me a favor on that one) and others would not play and are currently serving as drink coasters. Sharp does appear to be offering formware updates to address incompatibility but they are slow in coming and customer service is apathetic at best. The unit is also very large (large footprint) and may not fit in some media cabinets. So, if after reading this review, you decide that you still want to buy this puppy, make sure to take the dimensions into account and measure the space you plan to put it in.

1 Star Sucks the fun out of watching movies
First of all, I was very skeptical about buying a bluray player knowing about all the time wasted doing firmware updates and the slow functions. This machine confirmed my fears 100%. This thing is slow, taking nearky a minute for the empty tray to open, and another minute before the disc menu to show. Dreading to do my first firmware update, I had no choice, so I downloaded the latest firmware from Sharps website, and my player would not accept it. I call Sharp and they walked me through the process and it still would not accept the update. So they emailed me a shipping label and 4 days later I get my machine back. Did they fix it? No. It still won’t play the same 3 bluray discs “Ironman”, “Transformers” and “Resident Evil 3″ which are all new releases. I am not looking forward to contacting customer service again, but If they don’t refund me, I may send it back in pieces using their free shipping label of course.

1 Star Unsupported garbage
Won’t play several movies. Firmware updates have been non-existent, customer service is useless. I will NEVER buy another product from Sharp ever again. Absolute garbage. Stay as far away from this company as possible.

5 Stars blueray player
I also have a Sharp Aquos HD TV, and together, they make an excellent home theatre combination. 1 cable only; setup takes less than 30 seconds once you have the device out of the box. The player also attempts to up-convert standard DVDs, so that those produce more clarity and sharpness.

I highly recommend going the HD route; it’s indescribable how much better HD is over regular cable TV. The blueray player is not very expensive anymore, so why not go for it – even though currently the HD movie choices on blueray are somewhat limited. Hopefully that will improve.

3 Stars Sharp
This is a very slow operating player. When first turned on it takes a full 45 seconds to initialize. When a disc is inserted it takes another 30 seconds to figure out what type of media it is playing. While it is “changing gears”, you see static, good old black and white no signal type of static…

Panasonic DMP BD30K 1080p Blu ray Disc Player with Bonus HDMI Cable

December 31st, 2008

Panasonic DMP BD30K 1080p Blu ray Disc Player with Bonus HDMI Cable

The DMP-BD30 is the next generation High Definition 1080p Blu-ray Disc player. It is the first Blu-ray player to be introduced with Final Standard Profile, which adds a variety of new and enhanced features to the Blu-ray arena and one that separates the Panasonic Blu-ray player from the rest of the field. Also unique to the DMP-BD30 is the inclusion of an SD Memory Card slot for playback of High Definition content recorded in the AVCHD format. The SD slot also allows for viewing of digital still images recorded to an SD Memory Card.Final Standard Profile is an advanced function added to the Blu-ray standard, which opens the door to new functions such as Picture-in-Picture (which displays a second image in a sub window) and Audio Mixing (allows the consumer to switch the sound between the main and sub windows). The inclusion of a multi-function SD Card slot is another new addition to the Panasonic Blu-ray player. Coupled with the AVCHD codec, the DMP-BD30 allows for images recorded on a high capacity HD SD card to be outputted directly from the player’s HDMI terminal in their original 1080p form. To further benefit the user, the DMP-BD30 provides an AVCHD Direct Navigator function that makes it easy to search for particular scenes. The player can also play back JPEG still images on an SD card, such as those recorded with a Panasonic Lumix digital camera. The DMP-BD30 converts the images to 1920×1080 resolution, ideal for viewing on a1080p HD Plasma and output them through the HDMI terminal.Like its predecessor, the DMP-DB30 features the EZ-Sync HDAVI Control that allows the consumer to operate their Panasonic home theater system with one remote. With one touch of the EZ-Sync button, all the components turn on, the correct TV input is chosen, the TV’s built-in speakers are muted and the home theater starts playback.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars A great product
It`s a great component for music and video. My concern is that I had to buy a new DVD because the one that I used for years did not have an HDMI output wich is the kind of image that you will need for this home theather.

I have not try the blue ray with this component but the other features (like the quality of sound) are ok.

5 Stars Great Home Theater For The Price!
I’ve had this unit for close to a year now and I’ve been totally pleased with it. It was very easy to setup and has excellent sound for the price. While many reviewers on here say they had problems with the auto-calibration and it made the unit sound awful/tinny, I had absolutely no problems with it and it worked great for me. Maybe it depends on the size/setup of the room you have it in? If you do decide to use auto-calibration and aren’t satisfied with the sound quality, I would suggest following the advice of the others on here and reset the unit and/or make manual adjustments. I’m using a regular Sony DVD player (haven’t taken the Blu-Ray plunge yet), Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, AppleTV, Dish Network, and Sirius satellite radio with this unit, and it all works great.

To everyone giving bad reviews, low stars, and complaining because this unit does not have a Blu-Ray player integrated with it: YOU NEED TO RESEARCH AND READ THE DESCRIPTION MORE CAREFULLY!!! The title for this product says *FOR* Sony Blu-Ray players, NOT with. The description also says “NOTE: Blu-Ray player NOT included.” Not every home theater system has a disc player included with it, and this is one of them. You would see this if you were to read more carefully. Another clue that this unit doesn’t include a player is that it costs less than a standalone Blu-Ray player. Anyone who thinks they can get a home theater system including a player for less money than a standalone player has got to be totally nuts. Just because you didn’t read/research properly is no reason to give low stars or a bad review. The reason it says *FOR* Sony Blu-Ray players is because the front of it is constructed to match the look of standalone Sony Blu-Ray players. This is so if you own or purchase a standalone Sony player you can have a matching look between your audio/video equipment.

1 Star Does not ship to Hawaii
After 2 hours of comparison shopping I thought I had a great item, but when doing the checkout it does not ship to Hawaii, so if you live Hawaii, don’t bother.

5 Stars Nice Unit ~!
I have had this unit for close to 4 months now. One of the main reasons for getting this unit was the multiple HDMI ports on the back and the 1000 watt capability. Despite what many reviews say on here, the sound is truly amazing. While its not as nice as the Bose, its pretty high up their. Their are a few times when I hear noises through one of the side speakers and think its a noise in the other room. The auto-calibrate is bogus and the menu through the small lcd screen does get annoying sometimes, but overall its a great surround sound system for the price. I have the bass setting fairly low, and even then it cause some rattling with furniture in the room. I would not recommend this for someone in an apartment, as it can get pretty loud without realizing it (found out the hard way). The audio sync function is great for matching up with the TV speakers, as sometimes one will have a slight delay.

Note: The center channel does not line up with the Sony SU FL300L TV stand brackets. If you have this TV stand and want to attach the center channel in its described location, you will have to either drill new holes or get different brackets.

5 Stars Best boom for the $
I have been waiting for a system to be in the right price range and have audio sent through HDMI.

I got that and more.

I have my PS3,X-Box 360 and a HD-DVD player attached to the receiver.Just hit the corresponding button on the remote that you have that items HDMI hooked into and you are good to go.

I do have an Optical cable going from the TV to the Receiver and with this system I am in the middle of my favorite movies.

There are a good amount od sound schemes to go with what you watching ( Action, sports, music…) or you can set it to auto and let it set its self.

Premium HDMI v1 3 Cable 2M 6ft

December 31st, 2008

Premium HDMI v1 3 Cable 2M 6ft

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Works great
What can i say, its cheap, it ships for free, and it works just as well as those extremely overpriced ripoff cables such as Monster.

P.S. If youre new to the ps3 make sure u set the output to hdmi or you wont get a picture.

4 Stars Great Value
I previously used a different brand HDMI cable to connect my PS3 to my HD-TV. On many occasions, the signal got interrupted.

With this Premium HDMI v1.3 cable, the problem no longer occurs. It transmits the signal at full 1080p. I am very satisfied with this product’s quality and I recommend it to anybody, who is looking for a new HDMI cable, or wants to replace their current setup.

5 Stars Works as advertised.
Connects firmly, and does what it’s suppossed to. Used with XBox 360, Samsung P1500 Blu-ray player, Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR, and Vizio P50HDTV10A Television.

5 Stars Excellent Product
Don’t be fooled by the advertising that tries to get you so spend $100 on an HDMI cable. This one works just as well. Save yourself $90 and enjoy the show.

5 Stars Great value for the price
Without getting into many details all I have to say this product offers great value for the price.

I’ve read many discussions on the web about the importance of a quality HDMI cable. I have also read analysis of the fact that ANY cable does the same thing as all they do is carry ones and zeros.

I compared this to an original SONY cable I got, the reason why I got it was the simple thought that after spending hundreds of dollars in a HDTV system, 60 bucks for the high definition cable should not be of concern. Well, after removing it and connecting this one instead, no difference!

I use it on my PS3 with a 50″ HDTV LCD Sony Bravia, the colors and the definition are just great. I have used it for a couple weeks now watching bluray films and playing Metal Gear 4 and Prince of Persia.

Picture quality is stunning, in the end to me, it seems the brand does not make a difference.

Strongly recommended.
